Wildflowers on Goose Creek

I only know the ladyslipper, the others I don't. I would love to know what the cool yellow one growing in the creek is. The red star shaped ones seem familiar but just can't recall what it is.

I love these woods. My Grandpa Jess feels close when I'm poking around all these plants on this creek. I wish I would have paid more attention to him when he explained what they could be used for.

About the St. Francois Mountains

Formed by volcanic and intrusive activity 1.5 billion years ago, the St. Francois Mountains are the oldest in North America. Made from granite, perthitic potassium, feldspar, biotite, and magnetite, they are ancient compared to the Rockies which were created 140 million years ago, and older even than the Appalachians, which began forming around 460 million years ago.

These ancient mountains may be the only in the American Midwest that were never submerged, existing as an island in the Paleozoic seas. Fossilized coral, and the remains of old reefs can be found at the flanks of the mountains.

In the country again.

The bugs are crazy this year everyone agrees. It's ok though with me...I'm seeing more spring flowers and plants than ever before and like Uncle Jesse says, " If you leave them alone, they'll leave you alone." Tell that to the ticks.

The pics are from Todd and I hiking up to our waterfalls we go to out off of E highway. The water was running great, and the weather was perfect. I love Todd so much for being just the type to go to such a crazy place with me. It's the hardest hike we do, but I know he'll go there with me anytime.

The Perfect Flower

The morning air was crisp and
there was much to do.
The rising sun always brought the best energy of the day to him, and whether it was writing, gardening, or making music, he rarely missed the opportunity to tap into that creative light
that slowly engulfed his world, revealing the day's pleasures and tasks.

He grabbed the watering can from the back porch and pondered whether or not anything he ever did again would be a task. He hoped not.
With a cosmic chuckle that reverberated throughout the Universe, the Lord put His muck boots on and moseyed through the early light and into the Garden, and just like in the dreams of men, the grasses of the field bowed making a path for His feet, the trees vibrated while giving offerings of fruit and nuts, and the birds sang of His arrival at the Gate.

Did He notice the spectacular dance of life that swirled around His being?
Of course He did. He was the Light, and as all of creation called out for either His touch or His gaze He would release a Loving greeting and let His essence flow into the Garden while taking the exact amount back into Himself. Balance would be maintained even though His mind was on finding a flower to cut for the dinner table that evening.

As His mind turned easily toward His Visitor that would soon appear, the morning light became golden, the air stilled, and the animals quieted. Time itself was obedient as a warmth that pours only from the Heart of God fell on every creature large and small.

She was coming...and nothing else mattered except for the simple murmurs of wonder and encouragement that could be heard on the gathering winds of anticipation that were beginning to blow once again from Paradise, while the Son searched high and low for that perfect flower for His Mother.

Road-Trippin' to Frankfort and Cove Springs

Cove Springs was awesome and the weather seemed to turn especially nice after we went there.
It's a very peaceful place that will be nice in the spring also...I imagine there are wildflowers all around. I drank some of the water.

You'll notice in the photos that the land is just getting that first tinge of green.
We had a great time, and I think Rhonda and Todd are awesome road-trippers. The East End Diner was tiny but had a nice cozy feel.

Cold Chicken on the Ground

Snowed a little here and I took pics of the chickens coming out of the hen house. My hand raised chickens didn't know what to think about the snow, and just stayed inside all day.

A New Year and More.

Gonna try again to write in this blog. Rather than send out a boat-load of emails with my thoughts, I guess I could be like the rest and blog a little dab of it.

So...here we go.

Todd and I are going to Frankfort tomorrow with our friend Rhonda. We're going to stop at Cove Springs Park and see how it looks. The last time we were there was about ten years ago...hopefully it's as nice as before.
